Welcome to the new Hingham Soccer website!
The 2008 season is just around the corner and it is time to get back to work! Captains practices are being held Tuesdays 9-11 A.M, Thursdays 5-7 P.M, and Saturdays 9-11A.M in order to get in shape for the tryouts held on August 21. The tryouts consists of three parts.
It's time to get back to work!
Each individual will be matched up with a partner in both the 2 mile run and push ups and sit ups. (To record their time and amount.)

The 2 Mile run is necessary in the tryouts. Coach Carlin (varsity coach) and Coach Davidson (jv coach) want each individual to run below 16 minutes (even though most people finish below or around 15 minutes.) The 2 Mile run  is seperated into three groups. The first group consists of people who think they can run below 13 minutes. The second group consists of people who think they can run between 13-15 minutes, and the third group consists of people who think they'll finish above 15 minutes. Remember to BRING RUNNING SHOES! In the past we have had kids unable to run the 2 mile because they only had cleats. Don't let it happen to you. (You only need running shoes at the first tryout on the track.. But bring them everyday anyways just to be sure.)

The push ups and sit ups are split up into 2 minute intervals. During the push ups you must have the correct position and go all the way down and up to finish 1 correct push up. If your knees or stomach are resting on the ground you are done no matter how much time is left. You may rest only at an up position. (Don't try to be sneaky, your partner, coaches, and captains will be watching everyone.) Don't get scared, it is not boot camp. However, coach will go on and on about how his daughter can do more push ups and sits ups than you. Its the same story every year. For the sit ups each person will do as many as he can for 2 minutes. However, your hands must be connected BEHIND YOUR HEAD and you can only rest at an up position. You cannot rest with your back against the ground.

Finally comes the soccer part. After running the 2 mile and doing the push ups and sit ups, everyone will move to the fields located next to the far parking lot. The coaches will then make us run around the field complex and do 2 or more "heritages". We only jog around the fields yet many kids end up walking due to cramps.(So after you run the 2 mile REST UP and drink plenty of fluids. Preferably gatorade which gives you the sugar needed for your muscles in order to avoid cramping.) The remainder of the tryouts will consist of drills and games which actually involve a soccer ball. YAHOO!
